Bio 106 HITE and
Honors Project Description The main focus of the report should be on local (California) plant and animal communities. You can complete this project by going to a local nature reserve, museum, aquarium or zoo, and writing a report on the information you have gathered. Write a 1 paragraph summary each of 4 plant species, 4 animal species, and 4 examples of different habitat types or ecological adaptations that the various plant or animal species exhibit. This would equal a total of 12 paragraphs, or approximately a 6-page paper. You can provide more information on some species and habitats types if you like, or include a greater number of species/habitats depending on how much information you find on each. You can supplement your paper with online research and attach pictures to your report is you wish, but it is not necessary. I would like you to paraphrase the information you gather and provide the sources/brochures you used to get the information from, with your report (if you get the information from the museum specimens, you don't need to provide a copy of that, just say it was from that source.) You will need to include a bibliography that lists the sources of all the information you have included in your report. One local nature reserve you can visit to complete this
assignment is Placerita
You can get information on their location and hours from there. Go to the Visitor's Center and ask for brochures and literature on all the plant and animal species and the habitat types that can be observed there. They have a small museum where you can get information on the plant and animal specimens on display there. They also have descriptions of the different habitat types that exist in that area. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you have a special interest or focus that you would like to direct your project towards. I have provided guidelines to give you a starting point, but I would ultimately like to see you do a biology project that you are interested in. |
